Teaching and Learning Communication, Language and Literacy
- Ann Browne - University of East Anglia, UK
This practical resource examines:
- How young children develop as learners and users of language and literacy
- The contribution that home and school make to their learning
- Play as a context and a resource for learning
- The role of adults in supporting and extending learning
'In her usual accessible fashion, Ann Browne has written a book that provides support and guidance for both students and practitioners in a range of settings….The whole text manages to combine exploration of theory interwoven with references to documentation followed by practical examples of activities that might foster particular skills, knowledge or understanding' - Early Years
`This text offers sound and detailed guidance on all aspects of communication, language and literacy in the early years...[The author's] helpful message about nurturing positive attitudes to young children's learning permeates the entire text...This could become one of those books that we all need to own and refer to regularly' - Marian Whitehead, language and early years consultant
To be recommended as a comprehensive textbook on the subject for all EY specialists.
Ann Browne is a very accessible, well organised and authoritative writer who explores the issues of early learning and the ways in which children can be supported by adults
The is a very accessible book for undergraduate students. It is similar in many ways to Ann Browne's other book "Developing Language and Literacy 3-8" but it has some useful additional chapters. The chapter on assessment is particularly interesting.
