SAGE Publishing welcomes the Journal of Palliative Care to its health science journals portfolio

July 13, 2017

SAGE Publishing today announces that it has begun publishing the Journal of Palliative Care (JPC), an international and interdisciplinary outlet for practical, critical thought on palliative care and palliative medicine.

The Centre for Bioethics of the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal originally published JPC, now in its 32nd year. The late Dr. David J. Roy, a renowned international leader in palliative care, founded the Centre in 1976 and the journal in 1985. Dr. Keith M. Swetz, section chief and medical director of palliative care at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, and Associate Professor at the UAB School of Medicine became editor-in-chief as of July 1, 2017.

“I consider myself very fortunate to have been named as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Palliative Care, succeeding Dr. David Roy,” commented Swetz. “I look forward to carrying on his legacy, while ushering a new, exciting era for JPC with SAGE Publishing. Our editorial board and publishing team will be working hard to bring the journal to the forefront of this rapidly evolving field of palliative care.”

A quarterly journal, JPC publishes 12 types of papers including reports of original research, opinion papers/commentaries, narratives and humanities works, current reviews, case reports/case series, book reviews, and reports on international activities and comparative palliative care. The journal’s editorial board, authorship, readership, and panel of manuscript reviewers is international.

“The Journal of Palliative Care provides palliative care physicians and other health professionals with key information on treating people with serious illnesses,” commented Bob Howard, Senior Vice President of Global Journals, SAGE Publishing. “Working with the editorial board, we’ll ensure that the journal continues to grow its readership and publish high caliber research.”

SAGE began publishing JPC with volume 32, which was managed by interim editor, Dr. Robert E. Enck of the University of Tennessee. Visit JPC’s website for more information.
