Written specifically for students based in the UK, the text examines the full range of topics relevant to sport studies and is fully supported with learning activities, suggestions for further study, and guidance on how to progress and succeed in the subject.
Here, the author admirably, creatively, and generously shares her knowledge and tips... Exemplary, also, are the discussions about how to link knowledge in sport to a kind of employability. This discussion is motivated by thoughts that most students ponder concerning how to get a job in their field of study.
Great book that covers all aspects of sports studies.
This is a useful resource for students studying sport and politics as well as those studying sport and business. I have advised students to get copies of this book for their preparation and reading.
Very good book to read as an introduction to the underpinning of sports science. Part 2 is an interesting read around the political and economic aspects of sport policy and structure. Part 3 is excellent for those still unsure of how to use their new skills and qualification
A very good text containing excellent detail over a variety of social concepts. Particular areas highly related to my students work are the impact of media on sports participation in certain groups including women, ethnic minorities and social class. There are lots of issues highlighted for debate and discussion on ethics, fairplay and its relevence in modern day sport and the Paralympics debate on integration and segregation of athletes. This text highlights many social issues affecting sport globally and in the UK and offers students routes and segways in which to take their own independent studies and ideas. There is also a very useful section about personal study, advice on study projects, types of assessments students can undertake, action planning and producing PDP's.
A comprehensive useful and informative practical book that draws from a range of disciplines. In particular, the learning activities provides some useful group and reflective discussions.
As the text is divided usefully into sections this helps the reader cover the range of key issues related to the study of sport.
A good introduction to the multidisciplinary field of sports studies.
A suitable read for level 3 students with great discussion topics that can be developed for future lesson plans or informal classroom discussions.
Information can be crossed reference for a range of BTEC units and students have refered to sections of the book, particularly the range of case studies that provide great examples for students to understand the theoretical information.
A popular book in research activities.
