The tremendous need for a social safety net during the COVID-19 pandemic launched a renewed national and state policy focus on the importance of comprehensive, multidimensional public investments in children. This volume draws on research across multiple disciplines to identify public supports that children need to thrive developmentally, and models of successful complementary public investments in children. The research within this volume highlights the interdependence among components of the social safety net, and offers paths forward for structural improvements at the federal and state levels.
